Kerf bending steel

This was just an experiment to see how difficult to be to bend some mild steel flat bar gently around the wide axis.

So using a 1mm slitting disc in a 115mm Angle Grinder I made a few part cuts:

Then put one end in a vice and pulled on the other:

The MIG/MAG welded over the cuts:

Attacked it with a 40 grit flap disk:

Quick spray of primer:

and some black satin:

The actual stuff is a bit beefier (40mm x 8mm rather than the 30mm x 5mm of the demo), but given the ease of the test bend (and the fact that the bend required is very shallow (radius probably something like 4m) I think that ought to work:
