Is there an easy method of distinguishing between PVC SWA and XLPE SWA ?Also are most SWA cables manufactured and used today XLPE and not PVC ? Tom.

You should be able to tell from the markings on the outer sheath. (or for that matter by specifying what you buy). XLPE cables certainly seem to dominate the available supplies (note even XLPE cable tends to have ordinary PVC on the outer sheath).
