Solar Thermal means any technology using solar heat power. This covers a wide range of techniques and uses for solar energy. For DIY purposes we're concerned with space heating and hot water, and occasionally solar powered cooling.

Solar sytems vary widely in performance, cost, payback and practicality. Any prospective system should be properly evaluated before purchase and installation. Professional installations are on the whole less likely to pay their way, due to much higher initial cost.
