Nailing

The 2nd row of nails reinforces the joint created by he 1st row, but nothing does a similar job for the 2nd joint, held together by the 2nd row of nails. A way to strengthen it against pullout is to drive the nails in at an angle. I'd do that if I were building it NT 22:17, 29 May 2012 (BST)

Indeed, they were angled... being ringshank also helps. Because of the second row into the ends of the side boards, it also means you have six nails per plank end, which ought to be enough to hold it - especially as its the short side. (I can always stick some screws in later if it shows any sign of moving). --John Rumm 17:06, 30 May 2012 (BST)
