Or maybe the powertools FAQ should be migrated here? Seriously: there is such a wide and constantly and rapidly changing range of types, models and makes of power tools that, perhaps more than in other fields (such as gas fitting) a wide range of people are likely to have relevant expertise they can contribute. I think people are more likely to contribute when they can just click 'edit' and add their contribution than when they've got to find out who to send their suggested changes/additions to, actually send them, then the recipient has to incorporate them and publish the revised article (perhaps involving sending it to the webmaster of the static FAQ).

The comment about being in the FAQ, was really because this article (and the impact driver one) were originally written for that collection of articles, and fill a couple of empty place holders there. It also shares a writing style and layout that goes with the rest of the FAQ section on power tools which is perhaps different to how it would have been laid out had it started life destined for the wiki.

I agree about the rate of change and development, and the wiki is a good place to track this sort of information. Whether the wiki wants to replace the FAQ, or augment it and link to it, or if we should copy the FAQ power tools content here etc, I am not sure. The FAQ is good for the background information that does not change frequently and is quite good at answering basic FAQs with.

The publishing process for the FAQ is somewhat more restrictive. Usually new stuff was only added after discussion and peer review in the group. Changing it requires more work certainly, and it is a burden on Phil to maintain. However many people find the FAQ via a web search, I am not sure if that is the case for the wiki yet (which in comparison still has loads of place holder material that makes it a bit harder for the newbies to navigate to the useful stuff). I think the FAQ could certainly do with pointers to the wiki fairly near the front end if it has not already got them.


PS How do you get this thing to drop the time and date into the text automatically after your sig?
