Asphalt is a tough waterproof durable floorcovering widely used in large buildings. It is a rolled and polished mixture of bitumen and clay. It is available in black, brown and dull red.

It is also sometimes used for roofcovering.

There is disagreement over whether asphalt is pronounced 'ass fault' or 'ash felt.' In reality both are in common usage.

Asphalt is not tarmac, and is not used for roads or pavements.

Softening temperatures range from 57C to 107C for different grades of asphalt.

Sprayed diesel is used to reduce sticking of asphalt to equipment.
