A sawboard is a guide used with a circular saw for making long cuts, particularly out of large board material, more accurately than by following a pencil line. The effect is similar to using a rip guide but whereas a rip guide might allow one to make cuts up to, say, 100mm from the edge of the material, a sawboard does not have this limitation. The device can be made out of two strips of wood (which have to be quite accurately cut in the first place) and is specific to the dimensions of the circular saw it is made for. A suitably-made sawboard can also be used with jigsaws.

An excellent description of how to make and use this device is at http://members.aol.com/woodmiser1/sawbd.htm
