Pretty Twig Furniture is simple to make from garden scraps. Cost is just a pack of screws.

Items that can be readily made from twigs include:

  • Chair
  • Table
  • Bed
  • Headboard
  • Wardrobe
  • Stool
  • Bench
  • Hanging sign
  • TV table
  • Chaise longue
  • Ottoman
  • Kissing seat
  • Bird feeder
  • Plantbox
  • Table lamp
  • Standard lamp
  • Gazebo
  • Barstool
  • Rocking chair

Construction

Method of construction is fairly self evident from the pictures.

Use of screws rather than nails avoids the furniture becoming loose and rickety in time.

Twig joints are not ideal, so use of diagonal bracing will stiffen and strengthen the structure considerably.

Protruding screw heads that can snag clothes can be avoided by screwing tops from underneath, and screwing legs from behind.

All screwholes should be predrilled to avoid splitting.

A rocking chair requires some extra work to form the curved rockers, unless you're lucky enough to find some suitably curved wood you can trim. If not, a rigid framework is formed with a curved outline, and flexible wood with a smooth lower side is attached to this curved surface to make the rocking rails. It is the framework above these rails that keeps them in the necessary curved shape. More than just 2 strips of curved wood will be needed for rails, as the wood will be of relatively small diameter.
