A brief summary of the latest uk.d-i-y discussion on this is that most fridge freezers are very reliable, from the very cheapest to luxury models, with 2 exceptions.

It was also noted that increasingly some models can't be fitted with replacement door seals, that in some cases a whole new door is the only cure.
Finally glass shelves have the advantage of reducing risk of spoilage by preventing dripping onto foods below.
